TS@aW #16: We Are a Flash

Ciao Raggazzi!

Updated: Revised lyrics and sound file added.

This weeks TS@aW is unusual, in that I’ve been in Italy (hence the snazzy opening) for a few gigs, very kindly organised by an old mate of mine Ray Heffernan. Thanks Ray :-)

Being in Italy has somehow got me thinking a lot about French singers and songwriters, probably from Ray’s after-gig CD; Jacques Brel (actually, he’s Belgian), Leonard Cohen (mmmm… Canadian, not French, so ignore that bit), Edith Piaf.  All lost on you until you hear the tune I guess. Those of you who like a boogie will be glad to hear it’s a waltz! At the moment anyway…

I was initially planning on either doing something synth pop entirely on the laptop but it didn’t work out that way, and I’ve had constant chirruping accompaniment from Chuckie the chick:

All of which means I don’t have a sound file for you yet.  So here’s the plan, I’m going to record this tune on Monday hopefully, when I get back home. So until then, here’s the mammoth lyric! I’ll fire the sound file up when it’s sorted.

We are a flash,
In the blink of an eye we are gone,
And there’s no turning back.
We are a flash,
And nobody knows,
What really happens next.

History shows us that everything changes,
And everything stays the same.
The world turns and witnesses folly,
On a scale too large to understand.
But love will retain the best of emotion,
The moments that burn themselves into your conscience,
There are words and interpretations,
That cannot explain the millionth deception,
The world will never be the same,
But remember that nothing ever changes.

We are a flash,
In the blink of an eye we are gone,
And there’s no turning back.
We are a flash,
And nobody knows,
What really happens next.

The world in a matchbox designed by another,
The spark that is struck into light then
Blown out by the fickle flightings of chance,
Breaking your heart, breaking your back.
I cannot explain how I feel,
And I know that these words only grope at my meaning,
There is nothing to say that’s not already said,
But when people are born they forget,
What came before.
Each generation goes back to the

Start of the flash,
In the blink of an eye we are gone,
And there’s no turning back.
We are a flash,
And nobody knows,
What really happens next.

History repeats itself,
The joys and the pain are the same,
We all get a little more educated,
And a little more expectant.
Lost in the eye of the world,
Wondering what we are.
Everything changes,
And everything stays the same.
Everybody loves,
But some people are always lost.

We are a flash,
In the blink of an eye we are gone,
And there’s no turning back.
We are a flash,
And nobody knows,
What really happens next.

Nice song, Billy. Great seeing you last week.

Chuckie says “chirp cheep-cheep, chirp chirp cheee”, he says you’d know what he meant.

  2. what a nice surprise: bill macmanus coleman live in italy … and nice cds too … yeah
